WWW Wednesday #5

Happy Wednesday, everyone and I hope you’re all doing well. March and April tend to be a very busy time of year for me because of Lent. Church and musical obligations begin to pile up again like Christmastime and I’ve begun some Instagram/social media consulting for a law firm as another freelance gig on the side (long story short, a co-worker recommended me). I’ve also been singing for multiple funerals for the last couple of weeks and it’s so sad…but the money is so good!

Anyway, I’ve been quite busy with work as well, so I haven’t been able to blog and I’m falling a bit behind on my reading. I hope you are all relaxing and finding time to read.

P.S. The whole #InstagramDown thing today is a real pain in the butt! I’ve been trying to upload the same boomerang video for the last like 7 hours, LOL.

WWW Wednesday is a popular weekly meme that is currently being hosted by Taking On A World of Words.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

currently reading

On The Come Up by Angie Thomas
*Although this book has already come out, I am reading an Advanced Reader’s Copy.

Superman: Dawnbreaker by Matt de la Peña

I would like to make it clear that as a reader, blogger, reviewer and librarian, I am not ignoring the fact that there are allegations of sexual harassment against this author–allegations which I did not learn until after the book was on its way to being published. Fact: There are several other kid-lit and YA authors who have been openly accused of sexual harassment and assault.

I don’t consider myself a fan of Matt de la Peña and the only other works I’ve read by him are his picture books (His book Last Stop on Market Street was a Newberry winner). I knew he was an established author but I was surprised to learn he was writing the Superman installment in the DC Icons series because all the other authors for the previous books are women.

I have enjoyed the previous books in this series and have booktalked them to my teen readers, so I was excited about the last book as it is about my favorite superhero. On principle, I would not read this book unless it was freely and easily accessible to me as I do not think it would be right of me to purchase this for my personal collection. I’m reading it because of the art itself, not the artist. It is your choice whether or not you decide to read and/or purchase a book by a problematic author.

I’ll Be There (Montgomery Brothers #6) by Samantha Chase

Springtime at Hope Cottage (Sweetwater Springs #2) by Annie Rains
*Thank you to Forever Romance for sending me a finished copy in exchange for an honest review.

→ Escapingfrom Houdini (Stalking Jack the Ripper #3) by Kerri Maniscalco
YA Historical Fiction, Mystery

A Question of Holmes (Charlotte Holmes #4) by Brittany Cavallaro
YA Realistic Fiction, Mystery

This is the most recent physical book I’ve purchased, and also one of the last items I bought online before Lent started! (I gave up online shopping for Lent again).

→ Her Best Friend (Book Boyfriends #3.5)by Claire Kingsley
Contemporary Romance

I am ready to just lie down, read a little bit, and go to sleep! Luckily, I took the day off tomorrow because I had some vacation time to use up before the end of March (I nearly forgot!), so I will be able to get work, chores and reading done–especially since I also have Friday’s off. The weekend is basically here for me and I need it! Let me know what you’re currently reading and your plans for the weekend.

love, jasmine

  1. I recently bought On The Come Up – I think I need to binge that and THUG soon! I also need to continue the Stalking Jack the Ripper books since I loved the first – I’m just terrible with sequels and forget and slowly forget to read them -oops.
